A fatal crash on Route 283 East in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County claimed the life of a York County woman Saturday night. According to officials, the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Route 283, a major roadway connecting Lancaster and surrounding areas.
Details of the Route 283 Crash
Authorities report that a sedan, driven by Heather Bare, 48, of New Salem Borough in York County, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 283 at the time of the crash. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the vehicle first struck an EMS vehicle before colliding head-on with a state police vehicle.
Injuries and Fatality
Heather Bare was transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. Occupants of the state police vehicle were also transported to the hospital. Officials report they are currently in stable condition.
Ongoing Investigation
The crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Additional details regarding contributing factors have not yet been released.
