An investigation is underway after a fatal train accident involving an Amtrak worker in Lancaster County. According to officials, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Greenfield Road and Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township.

Details of the Lancaster County Train Accident

Authorities report that an Amtrak maintenance worker was walking on the railroad tracks when he was struck by a train. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jeremy Charles, 39, of Holtwood, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the cause and manner of death have not yet been officially determined.

NTSB Investigation in East Lampeter Township

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed that it is sending a team to Lancaster County to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation will focus on factors such as:

  • Track conditions

  • Safety protocols

  • Worker positioning and procedures

  • Train operation at the time of the incident

Location of the Incident
