Mar 27, 2026 | Accident Reports

A woman is facing multiple charges after two dogs allegedly attacked another individual and killed a pet in a tragic incident in central Pennsylvania.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the attack occurred on March 11 at the Red Roof Inn near Danville in Montour County.

What Happened

Authorities report that two pit bulls escaped from a hotel room and entered the parking lot, where they attacked a 52-year-old woman who was walking her own dog.

Investigators say the dogs were able to get out of the room due to a lever-style door handle, which they could open by jumping up on it. The dogs’ owner was reportedly not present at the time of the incident.

State police have charged a 45-year-old woman in connection with the incident. She is facing:

  • Three counts of harboring a dangerous dog
  • Three counts of failure to properly confine animals

Fines and penalties associated with the charges exceed $5,000, in addition to court costs and restitution related to the loss of the victim’s dog. Authorities identified the two dogs involved in the attack as three-year-old pit bulls. A third dog was also listed in the charges but was not involved in the incident.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.

Dog Bite Liability in Pennsylvania

Under Pennsylvania law, dog owners have a responsibility to properly restrain and control their animals. When that responsibility is not met, serious injuries—and even fatalities involving pets—can occur.

Victims of dog attacks may have legal options to pursue compensation for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Veterinary costs and loss of a pet
