A pedestrian was seriously injured Sunday night and airlifted to a hospital after suffering a traumatic leg amputation during a multi-vehicle crash in Chambersburg, according to police.
The crash occurred around 8:51 p.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and Catherine Street.
Authorities say a minivan traveling south on South Main Street failed to stop at a red light, striking another vehicle in the intersection. The minivan then continued forward and hit a pedestrian who was attempting to enter a parked vehicle.
First responders arriving on scene found the victim trapped with a severe leg injury resulting in amputation. Fire crews were able to extricate the individual within approximately six minutes.
The pedestrian was transported by helicopter to a Chambersburg-area hospital for advanced medical care. Officials have not released an update on the victim’s condition.
