A tragic multi-vehicle accident in Indiana County, Pennsylvania has left two people dead and shut down a portion of Route 22 near Blairsville for several hours on Thursday.
Fatal Crash in West Wheatfield Township
According to state police and emergency officials, the crash occurred just after 8:30 a.m. in West Wheatfield Township, near the intersection of Bowser Road and Mt. Tabor Road.
Emergency crews responded to the scene where a serious collision involving multiple vehicles had taken place.
What Happened on Route 22?
Based on initial crash reports:
- The driver of a Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound near the intersection
- The driver allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering Route 22
- The pickup truck then entered the highway and was struck by two commercial vehicles
- One traveling eastbound on Route 22
- One traveling westbound on Route 22
Authorities confirmed that two individuals were killed as a result of the crash. Their identities have not yet been released. The roadway remained closed for most of the day as investigators worked to reconstruct the scene and clear the wreckage.
